STATES OF THINGS: A FLUSSERIAN MODEL OF PHOTOGRAPHY
I see the Photo Booth as a unifying theoretical model of Vilem Flusser's writings. It is an automaton that interacts directly with the subject, making that person both an addressee and fuctionary of the Photo Industrial Complex. In his writings, Flusser describes the Apparatus, Program, Information and Image as his four pillars in a theory of photography. My Installation is based on these four pillars and as an Apparatus the Photo Booth incorporates them all. The booth has a camera (apparatus) that is designed to work with the internal mechanics (program) to produce an output (image) that is consumed (information). It is a re-interpretation of the photograph as an image of post history as described by Flusser.
